Sightseeing Around Las Vegas
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation is 17 mi. West of Las Vegas on Charleston Boulevard/State Route 159 and provides a 13 mile scenic loop drive, and over 30 miles of hiking trails in an area of 195,819 acres.
The 13 mile scenic loop is one-way so once you start you have to finish it. You can stop the car along the way to admire the views and sights or to take a walk.
Red Rock Canyon activities include cycling, hiking, climbing and horseback riding. There are picnic areas where you can enjoy lunch. More than a million visitors enjoy this area each year.
The historic man-made creation Hoover Dam, is in Black Canyon about 30 miles southeast of Las Vegas. Hoover Dam is 726 feet tall and 1,244 feet long.
More than a million visitors a year take a tour of Hoover Dam and millions more drive across it. It takes about two hours to tour the Dam and the Visitor Center is open from 9am - 6pm.
The new Dam Tour gives you all the options of the Power Plant Tour plus an unprecedented look inside the dam allowing visitors to enter through the inspection tunnels. The top floor of the Visitor Center is the observation deck and provides panoramic (have the camera ready) views of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, the Colorado River and more.
Lake Mead has mild winters, hot summers and spectacular scenery. Located 25 miles from Las Vegas, Lake Mead has more than 550 miles of shoreline that offers a variety of water recreation activities. Visitors can go swimming, water-skiing, camping, boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, take tours and cruises.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a million and a half acres of land. The two big lakes-Mead and Mohave- are what draw most visitors. It is the 16th largest man-made lake in the world, created by the Hoover Dam along the Colorado River.
Lake Mead has eight campgrounds, seven RV campgrounds with hookups, five marinas, boat and jet ski rentals, beaches, restaurants, cafes, snack bars, picnic areas and a visitors center.
Bonnie Springs Ranch is located a short distance from Red Rock Canyon and provides wholesome family entertainment on 115-acres. Built in 1843 as a cattle ranch it now has a petting zoo, riding stables and the famous Bonnie Springs Ranch Restaurant. Next door is Old Nevada a full scale restoration of Western Town where you'll find kid friendly shows, a miniature train ride and a wax museum.
